The Life Science Tennessee Foundation is committed to advancing STEM education and promoting careers in the biosciences — the fastest-growing economic sector in the United States. As Tennessee looks to the future, we must prioritize STEM learning to ensure our students are prepared to thrive in a rapidly evolving workforce.

Our Foundation’s STEM Assessment evaluates both the current landscape of science, technology, engineering, and math careers in Tennessee and our state’s educational readiness to meet the rising demand for STEM talent in high-wage fields.

“Ensuring there are enough qualified STEM workers, as well as better participation from under-represented groups, will take a strategic focus on K-12 STEM education and increased access to college preparatory programs that promote STEM careers,” said Dr. Samuel Lynch, chairman and co-founder of the Life Science TN Foundation.

STEM jobs in Tennessee are projected to grow at nearly twice the rate of non-STEM occupations, with average wages exceeding $95,000 — more than double the state’s average for non-STEM roles.

Investing in students’ preparation for STEM careers is not only an investment in their individual futures — it’s essential to Tennessee’s long-term economic prosperity.

The report also highlights the proven impact of STEM-focused initiatives such as the $500 million Race to the Top program, reinforcing the need for sustained and strategic investment in STEM education statewide.
