ABOUT

Life Science Tennessee presents LSTCON, an annual conference that brings together Tennessee‘s life science ecosystem to collaborate, learn, and build meaningful connections across the state.

Join us on November 18 to hear from state and national industry leaders and researchers about topics that affect life science companies daily. The day will conclude with the crowd favorite Venture Forum where life science startups will pitch their prospective companies to the full conference audience for a chance to win $10,000!

The event will take place at the Westin Downtown in Nashville, Tennessee. If you would like to sponsor a session, suggest a speaker, or learn about other opportunities during the conference, please email us at [email protected].

This year, we’re using Brella to maximize our networking. 9:15 AM  New Frontiers: Exploring How Gene Therapies Will Alter Patient Care & Delivery – sponsored by Vertex

Groundbreaking gene therapies such as CASGEVY modify or replace faulty genes with healthy ones to cure disease. Moving beyond treatment to cures changes the game and raises issues around reimbursement, availability and more. This panel will explore gene therapy’effective cure of sickle cell disease, the application for other chronic disease, and the path to ensuring that these cures are available to patients.

  • Rep. Harold Love; Lametra Scott, Breaking the SSickle Cell Cycle Foundation Inc.; and Karen Bernstein, BioCentury (moderator)

10:00 AM Tennessee Innovation Parks Driving Life Science R&D – sponsored by Covalent Properties

Building Tennessee’s innovation economy is as much about infrastructure as it is R&D. This panel of industry and academic leaders will discuss how innovation parks, university partnerships, and private development are redefining where and how life sciences growth happens across the state.

  • Brad Day, University of Tennessee – Knoxville; Eric Jorgenson, ETSU Research Corporation; Christopher Rowe, Vanderbilt University; Jessica Snowden, UTHSC; and Eric Elmquist, Covalent Properties (moderator)

11:00 AM Breakout  From Lab Bench to Term Sheet: De-Risking Academic Discoveries for Venture & Industry Investment

While early-stage academic discoveries often pave the way toward transformative therapies and technologies, the road from breakthrough science to investable opportunity involves significant risk. This panel brings together voices from academia, venture capital, and industry to discuss practical approaches to forming effective partnerships that bridge the “valley of death.” We’ll provide candid insights into what investors and industry partners look for when evaluating opportunities, the extent to which the current funding climate affects how open investors/industry partners are to engaging at different stages, and how academic teams can accelerate engagement.

  • Lana Caron, Solas BioVentures; Craig Lindsley, Vanderbilt University Warren Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery; Jim Stefansic, OmniBuds Inc.; and Alan Bentley Vanderbilt University Center for Technology Transfer & Commercialization (moderator)

11:00 AM Breakout  Tennessee’s Radiopharmaceutical Edge: Powering the Next Frontier in Medicine

Tennessee’s assets in the fast-growing radiopharmaceutical sector are unmatched. From Oak Ridge National Laboratory — the nation’s leading producer of medical isotopes — to new partnerships emerging among UT Knoxville, UTHSC, Vanderbilt University, and St. Jude, the state is primed to be a national leader. Join this panel to explore how Tennessee’s expertise, infrastructure, and collaborations are fueling innovation and commercial opportunity in this transformative field.
